You may request the postponement of your classification in the Armed Forces to obtain seagoing service if you meet all of the following conditions:

• you are legally outside the Armed Forces
• you are a high school graduate
• you are in possession of a seaman’s book

The remaining seagoing service required to obtain a diploma from merchant seamen shall not exceed 31 December of the year in which you reach the age of twenty-five (25) years of age. (For the purposes of calculating the age of military service, the date of birth shall be 1 January of the year of registration).

When you apply:
Supporting documents shall be submitted from 1 January of the year you started to reach the age of nineteenth (19) until the date on which you are required to register. If submitted at a later date, the deferral shall be granted only if the conditions existed on the date of classification.

You will need:

• personal Taxisnet credentials
• proof or copy of secondary school leaving certificate
• copy of the service record book
• certificate from the competent service of the Ministry of Merchant Shipping and Island Policy
