Birth allowance

You can claim the birth allowance of your child if you have not already done it at the time of the birth declaration at the maternity school or if the birth took place at home.
The application shall be submitted by the mother or the person having sole custody within three months of the birth of the child.

Conditions

  • the child has been born alive in Greece
  • the equivalent family income does not exceed EUR 40.000 per year
  • the beneficiary is permanently and legally resident in Greece and has the status of a Greek citizen or a foreign national of Greek origin or a European citizen or a citizen of an EEA State or a third-country national who has resided in Greece continuously since 2012.
  • apply within three months of birth

  • your personal Taxisnet credentials
  • your AMKA
  • the IBAN of your account with a Greek financial institution
  • your mobile phone number and email address

Data on the allowance
The amount of the allowance is two thousand euros (EUR 2000) and in the case of twin pregnancies the allowance amounts to four thousand euros (EUR 4000) and is free from seizure.
How much you pay in two (2) equal instalments of one thousand (1.000,00) euros each as follows:

  • the 1th instalment in the month following the birth of the child, if the application is made and approved within the month of the birth of the child; and
  • the 2th instalment after five months from the month of birth of the child

Please note that for specific cases of beneficiaries the application shall be lodged at Community Centre
