You can report the birth of your child in the maternity home where the birth took place.

Birth is required to declare:

• the parents of the newborn together
• the father of the newborn child, in the event of the death of the mother or on behalf of the neglect,
• the mother in the case of a single parent family

• for Greek citizens, identity card or passport or driving licence
• for citizens of a Member State of the European Union, their valid identity card or passport;
• for third-country nationals, the valid passport or other travel document recognised by international conventions, as well as the visa for entry into our country or the residence permit proving that they have entered and legally residing in the country, the International Protection Applicant’s Card for those granted asylum.

as well as state:

• your mobile phone number and email
• the IBAN of your bank account of a credit institution operating in Greece

once the application has been submitted to the maternity school, automatically:

• birth certificate issued
• an AMKA is attributed to the newborn
• the child is entered in the family account
• the child is registered with the relevant social security institution
• create application for birth allowance

You receive a sms on your mobile phone if the above actions are successful or not.
